From the Heart of the President

“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14).

Jesus gave us an important task! Unfortunately, many children in our culture are being hindered. Traumatic experiences like abuse, neglect, violence in the home, and poverty can have serious long-term effects on kids. We see those harmful effects on a regular basis in the children we serve. Many of them struggle with fear and anxiety, depression, feelings of anger they don’t understand, and a low sense of self-worth. They haven’t had opportunities to do fun and exciting things. And most of them have never heard that God loves them and has a plan for their lives.

We believe we are called to change that! Whether it’s here at one of our campuses, out in the communities where they live, or in their homes through the mail and online, we’re working to provide positive experiences that will help them overcome some of the hardships they’ve endured. We’re giving them a chance to engage in fun activities, learn new things, express their creativity, develop social skills, and more. It’s all designed to lead them to Jesus and show them how much He loves and values them.

And that has long-term effects, too. One counselor recently wrote to us, “He talks about Youth Haven often at school. He had such a good time that really resonates with him. This is a kiddo that usually struggles with positive peer interactions, and he is really working so hard at getting better. He just needs safe and supportive places to practice his skills. Thank you so much!”

Thank you for standing with us to provide that safe and supportive place for kids who need it. And thank you for helping them come to Jesus!
