MICHIGAN ASSISTANT PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Position Description:

 

The Michigan Assistant Program Director’s primary responsibility is to support the Michigan Program Director in order to ensure the children’s programs of Youth Haven are as effective as possible. This includes assisting with all areas related to the year-round children's program. These consist of both on-site and off-site programs, such as weekly camping sessions, online and virtual children’s ministry, Kids’ Club after-school programs, and mail-based programs.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Be a contagious and consistent Christian role model inside and outside the ministry of Youth Haven

  • Assist in the development of seasonal programming themes used during the children's activities, both on and off site

  • As a leader, respond lovingly and appropriately to children with behavior problems and lead other staff in dealing with them as well

  • Assist with the health needs of the children in coordination with health staff and the leadership of Youth Haven. This includes medication distribution and check in at registration. This also includes assisting with medical situations which may arise while children are on site.

  • Handle private and confidential issues in a responsible and professional manner

  • Assist in developing, overseeing and running games and activities in a safe manner

  • Serve as a team leader for a group of 6-8 children in situations where an additional staff member is needed

  • Assist in the planning and execution of chapel times each day for the children. This includes occasionally being the speaker during chapel, sharing age appropriate messages to the children and teens.

  • Assist with Youth Haven's Kids' Club after school programs. This includes lessons, activities, games, etc.

  • Assist with the management of Youth Haven's ELEVATE teen leadership program in Michigan, as requested by the Program Director.

  • Assist with special event planning. (i.e. Candlelight Dinners, Fall Celebration, Ladies' Day, Gala)

  • As one of Youth Haven's key leaders, be an ambassador of the ministry, sharing about the programs of Youth Haven with potential staff, agency contacts, volunteers and donors. This requires becoming very familiar with Youth Haven's ministry model, history, needs and vision.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • You must love Jesus and have an active, growing relationship with Him!

  • Have a passion and vision to reach children for Christ, specifically disadvantaged children ages 7-13; and be able to lead and support a team of staff who share that passion and vision

  • Be evangelistic and missions focused, desiring to be part of a “seed-sowing" ministry, focused on teaching the Gospel message to children who may never hear of Jesus Christ elsewhere

  • Have a sincere and deep commitment to Youth Haven's mission and values

  • Be a high energy, creative, motivating leader

  • Willing to be flexible, and to step in and help or work in any role, task or project within the ministry

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-motivated, creative, and confident

  • Be a good problem solver

  • Safety consciousness is essential

  • Able to work within a team environment with a servant’s heart; willing to do what is needed and asked to make the children’s ministry successful

  • Flexibility in work schedule is important. Due to Youth Haven's children's ministries occurring on weekends throughout the year, a non-standard schedule will be required

  • Certification in CPR and basic first aid (or willingness to be certified when hired)

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university preferred (camping, youth ministries, missions, education, social work, or other degree related to child development preferred)

  • At least 2 years of previous experience working with children and teenagers, preferably in camping or a similar ministry

  • Highly proficient and comfortable using computers and technology. This includes MS Office products, social media use, and video content development; Salesforce knowledge a plus

  • Able to re-locate to Youth Haven's Michigan campus and live in provided housing
